That same Nextwave link says they have solicited bids on buildout, and received 8 bids from 7 vendors--LU, MOT, LG, NT, ERICY, Siemens, Nokia--pray tell, why are Nokia and Siemens listed here? I would assume Nextwave will use CDMA, likely in CDMA 2000 mode. That brings up the question of why these two vendors are listed as possible bid winners. They are going to decide this month. Is Nextwave seriously thinking of using GSM? I would guess not, but I still wonder what Siemens and Nokia have to offer. Or, alternatively, is CDMA2000 being considered by all the vendors?
All around, a very interesting read. Total focus on data, with voice secondary. Nextwave will build the system and resell capacity to those who need it. They also talk of HDR. Can you see a pattern developing? Build a high capacity nationwide wireless data network and resell capacity to those who need it. Sprint? AT&T? Airtouch? BAM? Belly up to the data bar and don't you worry about building this yourself. Concentrate on voice, we'll handle the data. AOL? Do you need a high speed wireless internet service? We got it. I like the way things are moving here--time for some more due diligence to determine the winners(that is, other than QCOM). |
