Drygulch, you seem to be much more knowledgeable than I. Would you be able to express in layman terms what advantage, if any, Xicor's C7 process might give them in either the chip scale packaging or battery mgmt arena.
You mention price, footprint and power consumption. If a C7 product is smaller, I would think that enables them to get more product out of a single wafer, therefore being cheaper. Also being smaller I guess it would have a smaller footprint and use less power. Is that roughly correct? But is C7 smaller that what an ATML or DS can produce?
What I am getting at is that Xicor has been virtually incompetent in competing with its peers in the past. I would feel much more comfortable if I could identify a clear advantage in their products. (For example, ATML is now ten times the size, where they were once equal.)
Lastly, while I am at it, for many years IBM had a product portfolio that many bettered technically; but no one had better marketing and they did well for many years. I know Xicor has materially improved their marketing; but this isn't mainframes. In the chip category where Xicor operates, to what extent can good marketing make a difference even if the products are more or less equal on all points? |
