Austin Texas July 18 th 1999 Austin Convention Center mobbed by thousands of screaming Dell fans. Police intervene to prevent prevent people from cutting parts of stage carpet as souveniers. Janitors cleaning up debris after the meeting reported finding one pair of pantyhose, three Tee shirts stamped SI Investor, a set of directions on how to get to Sullivans restaurant,and 4,951 shares of CPQ stock of unknown value. Mr Dell was unfazed by the question as to why he recently sold 8 mm shares( the author notes that he could do that twice a year for the next two years and still have 1.1 billion shares more than he has today if there is only 1 stock split per year (instead of three in 18 months) even without being awarded further stock options. The vote for 7 bil shares was passed. If the surplus was issued at todays price that would represent a $193 bil increase in capitalization with which one could perhaps buy Russia or several ISP's but neither of those were deemed viable acquisitions. There were 5.3 times as many attendees as at the CPQ shareholders meeting. Sig ( who is not known for exaggerations)
