"Mystics have never contributed anything of meaning to the world except confusion and the seemingly innate talent to slow down the acquisition of REAL knowledge." Is that so?

It would appear, however, from the article at

sd.com.au

that mystics are, after all, productive people in a unique way. They tend not to produce material things (they are unmaterialistic people, remember) but create conditions "alchemically" to effect/affect conditions to improve the human condition.

Mystics have slowed down the acquisition of REAL knowledge, eh?
So have the "rational" Aristotle who was considered virtually infallible in his time, and others like him. Thanks to Ari and his ilk, the European world wallowed in ignorance and miseries in the Dark Ages for several centuries! And this prompted Bertrand Russell (a 20th century English philosopher) to declare Ari as "a tragedy of the human race" in his book, The Art of Scientific Investigation.

When discoveries were made that contradicted Aristotle, it was concluded that perhaps Aristotle was thinking about something else. And closer to our time, ideas of Space-Time Continuum and Relativity had a hard time in being accepted at the outset because of the stature of revered men like Newton, a super grand daddy of modern science. Even the fission of the atom (and later on, the hydrogen bomb) was considered an impossibility and a waste of time by the likes of scientific giants like Rutherford (and Neumann).

And if I might add in a perverse sort of way, we may not be as advanced in nuclear science as we are today, had it not been for the fear of Hitler (a mystic par excellence) and the Nazis!
Indeed, a group of mystics had, willy-nilly, contributed to the acquisition of REAL knowledge that propelled us into the Atomic Age and beyond!!!

Cheers!!!
