Hi Doug,

Let's see, impossibly bone-headed militarists decide to invade Taiwan, the cooler heads in Beijing council a maintenance of the status quo because of the implications for intervention of the US, at least with diplomatic and economic embargoes. And a heck of a big fleet of well armed ships. All for the sake of stroking the egos of a few generals. I don't get it. Sorry. There is no compelling economic reason that the civilian leaders in Beijing would have the least bit of interest in creating several years of chaos for the region. The militarists, well, the best and the brightest are no longer interested in the messy details of war, not when there is so much money to be made by participating world commerce. China has far more to lose than it has to gain by invading an island that historically has been separate from the mainland for a millenium. Only the sabre-rattlers misunderstand the situation, IMVHO.

Ciao, Ray
