40 hours is all that is required to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate. Flight Safety is the second best flight training center in the world.

500 hours in a year is a lot of hours to gain experience. Don't forget that this was a high performance aircraft. He had to have additional instruction and a sign off on that.

I do agree with you that he probably should not have attempted the flight. I feel he had what pilots refer to as "Get there itis".
