Well now I am going to do some research... I know the localities pass the prop taxes but the challenge to the courts was statewide I thought... I mean somebody, I don't know who, whether it was a consortium of parents or even the naacp or whatever, challenged "the state of texas" that minority kids were not receiving the same education as whites, or rich vs. poor, or however they couched it. The result was this robin hood stuff. The take from the rich, give to the poor, element sort of implies larger than local districts.... I think the primary complaint that people have is that this was brewing for a long, long time and nobody did anything and then, triple prop tax. I can only imagine what that would do to property values too. I don't think anybody wants busing but that sure sounds good compared to not being able to sell your home because you are in a "robin hood" district. Since Bush has been in people wanted a solution and nothing yet... I am not saying he caused the problem its just that it seems he hasn't solved it either.
Anyway that is the biggest reason people don't like Bush that I know of... people I know are very fiscally conservative, used to be republicans for the most part, so this issue would hit them hard, I'm not surprised, anyway I will look into it |
