Does anyone on this thread have any information on the PCF2033 IC, the Philips Smart Card, or the EuroChip?

Philips PCF2033 IC for prepaid phone cards.
Philips new Smart Card Controller P83C858

Questions:
1. What is the EuroChip and is there any connection to SanDisk?
2. Is the controller on the card?
3. Is there any self-healing on the card?
4. More litigation?

My daughter is visiting us from Athens, Greece and brought with her some prepaid telephone cards that were purchased in Greece and Germany.
These are the first cards I have ever seen that use flash memory. The German card has the name EuroChip printed on it, and from that I was able to determine that they are manufactured by Philips
Semiconductor. The cards were impressive especially when compared to the magnetic-striped telephone cards that I saw at Best Buy yesterday.
All of them had 8 metallic pads that were located on the left side of the card.

Currently there is a billing agreement between telephone companies in Germany and the Netherlands.

"Such an agreement already exists between Germany and The Netherlands. Hence, with the necessary agreements, it would be possible for a single card to be used anywhere in the world."

"Philips Semiconductors is rapidly ramping up shipping quantities of the PCF2033 IC for prepaid phone cards. Also known as a member of the
Eurochip-Family, this is a second generation of ICs for systems according to the German TELEKOM phone card system. It has been designed from scratch by Philips Semiconductors to provide fully compatible, second source products for pre-paid phone card ICs. Philips Semiconductors is manufacturing the ICs using an advanced CMOS technology, which gives the company a choice of manufacturing sites within its organization to meet demand - plus the ability to use the latest manufacturing technologies to achieve the high volumes and low costs that these products require."

"Phone card manufacturers and telephone companies have been concerned that there was only one source for these ICs", explained Dataquest Now
that Philips Semiconductors is providing a second source, the whole
market is set to expand at a tremendous rate."
