Absolutely forbidden to read someone else's writing without permission.
Forbidden by what? Morality, I agree generally, though not absolutely. (If my wife disappeared without a word and without a trace, and left her diaries behind her, I would feel entitled to read them to see whether they would give some clue as to her whereabouts. And, or course, if diaries could not be read without permission, would not have Anne Frank's diary.)
But law? between husband and wife? Are you suggesting that it is a tort or a crime (which?) for your husband to read your diary without your permission?
Or parent/child? If I suspectd (which I don't) that a child of mine were using drugs, would it be illegal, or even immoral, to look through their writings in their room, without their knowledge or permission, to look for clues as to their behavior?
And you just say generally, writing. Do you include all writing? checkbooks, letters, business correspondence, etc.?
I think your absolutist stand is a bit shaky, both in morality and in law. |
