I do not disagree with your thoughts, Today's copyright laws hardly do justice to the breakneck pace of Software innovation and development.

However, that does not change the reality that a software company's IP may not be patenta-able because it doesn't make any exclusive & unique technological improvement to methodology.

This being said, I thing there are MANY companies out there that CAN succeed, thrive, and dominate on the basis of their compliance to EXISTING standards and in their EXCELLENCE in implementation.
