I think reading someone else's diary, notebooks, email, and so forth is trespassing and invasion of privacy. As a lawyer, you can't just go through someone else's private papers without a court order, and then only to the extent that the information in the papers is relevant or may reasonably lead to relevant information.

There are those who say that Anne Frank's diary should have been kept private, that her father had no business publishing it. If I knew that she didn't want anyone to read it, I never would have read it.

As for the possibility that my husband might read my diaries, go through my chest of drawers, look through my wallet, or anything else like that, I trust that such is unthinkable to him. And if he ever did something like that, I know he'd feel as if he'd done something terribly wrong. And vice versa.
