Mark, <<never been short a stock in my life>> If being short is so honorable, why haven't you? Could it be that it's because being short is investing on the negative rather than the positive. Wishing for disaster? Long is an optimistic position, belief that all will benefit in appreciation.

Of course the goal is profit, but the motivations are very different.

I understand that shorts are beneficial to a healthy stock market, much like slugs and leaches are to a healthy environment, but I don't have to like them.
