Monday July 19, 1:24 am Eastern Time British tabloids cast harsh light on Kennedy crash LONDON, July 19 (Reuters) - Britain's popular newspapers on Monday described John F. Kennedy Jr as arrogant and ''a daredevil'' for attempting his disastrous flight.
The front page of Monday's Daily Mirror tagged Kennedy's last take-off with a one-word headline: ''Insanity.''
Kennedy, with his wife and her sister on board, was flying a small plane from New Jersey to Martha's Vineyard on Friday night when the plane vanished. The U.S. Coast Guard said on Sunday there was virtually no hope of finding them alive.
The Daily Mirror said Kennedy had had an injured foot and just 46 hours experience as a pilot, and should not have flown in such conditions.
The Daily Mail played up a comment from Lauren Lawrence, a writer for Kennedy's George magazine, headlining its story, ''Kennedy 'had a death wish'.''
''A picture emerged of the blend of recklessness and arrogance which led to his death,'' the paper said.
The Mail also devoted three full pages to a recital of the ''sexual shenanigans'' of President John F. Kennedy and other members of the family.
The Mirror and the Sun gave extensive cover to Kyle Bailey, a pilot at the New Jersey airport where Kennedy took off.
''I went home and told my wife, 'He's going to kill himself one day in that plane','' they quoted Bailey as saying.
The Daily Express saw the flight as the ''Last Fatal Risk of a Daredevil.''
''John F. Kennedy Jr died as he lived, pursuing a passion with a reckless disregard for his safety,'' it told its readers.
The broadsheet Daily Telegraph found gentler words. ''Kennedy falls victim to clan's spirit of adventure,'' it said.
The story dominated Britain's front pages but the Guardian led with a more conventional ''Nation mourns for missing Kennedy.'' Early editions of the Times declared: ''All hope lost for JFK Jr.''
