Is the storage business a mature industry? Wouldn't mature indicate there is little technical innovation, but just a matter of finding the best manufacturing process and scale?

It seems to me that the constant innovation and demand of getting yields up on new products would make this a not so mature industry compared to say making plywood, or refridgerators.

Also, the components are often technical advantages where as a mature industry would have components that add little value. What happens when your vertical supply is 2 generations behind in heads for example?

I'd say the vertical model as open to debate as the value of horizontal. Maybe we are actually seeing a total break down in the product cycle if the same drive can be continously selling for 2 or 3 years, at which time the vertical model will really be clearly an advantage. Otherwise, we shall continue to see the advantage and disadvantage as one of good management making the best of current circumstance.

Regards,

Mark
