Round Rock, Texas, July 19 (Bloomberg) -- Dell Computer Corp., the biggest direct-seller of personal computers, will open an auction site on the Internet to sell its own computers, the Wall Street Journal Interactive edition reported, citing Richard Owen, vice president of Dell Online. The web site, which will make Dell the first personal computer manufacturer to sell its own products, will also allow consumers to offer their own used products for auction. Online auctions are expected to account for sales of $8.1 billion by 2001, up from $525 million last year as companies such as Amazon.Com Inc. and CompUSA Inc. launch auction sites, the web site said.
Dell Computer Corp. will begin selling Internet access in the U.S., Chairman and Chief Executive Michael Dell said July 16.
