Monaco Telecom Selects Newbridge Carrier Switched Routing Solution to Deploy IP Virtual Private Network Services: Monaco Telecom Enters U.S. $11 Billion Global IP-VPN Services Market
KANATA, ONTARIO--Newbridge Networks (NYSE: NN; TSE: NNC) today announced that Monaco Telecom has selected the Newbridge(r) Carrier Switched Routing (CSR) solution to deliver a broad range of premium quality, Internet protocol (IP) virtual private network (VPN) services to its business customers. Monaco Telecom offers a range of voice and data services to Monaco's financial institutions, industrial corporations and residential customers.
The Newbridge solution enables Monaco Telecom to expand its service offerings to include IP-VPN services - one of the fastest growing market segments in the industry. Leading market research firm, Infonetics Research Inc., predicts worldwide market revenues for IP-VPN services will exceed U.S. $11 billion by 2010.
"Monaco Telecom was seeking a reliable, highly scalable, cost-effective networking solution that would enable us to enter the lucrative IP-VPN services market," said Christophe Pierre, assistant technical director, Monaco Telecom. "Our initial concerns about quality of service are addressed by the Newbridge CSR solution which brings the flexibility, scalability and reliability of ATM technology to native IP. In addition, we estimate the Newbridge solution will enable us to save more than 30 percent on our ongoing network operations budget."
CSR is the industry's first standards-based solution that maps differentiated, premium quality IP services over a cost-effective, fully managed asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) infrastructure. The solution incorporates several industry standards, such as Carrier Scale Internetworking (CSI) and multiprotocol label switching (MPLS). It also combines the ubiquity of IP routing with the performance, predictability and guaranteed quality of service (QoS) of connection-oriented ATM switching to deliver routing intelligence at switching performance and cost levels. The resulting network emulates the services of a conventional router or Layer 3 switch on a network-wide basis while leveraging the scalability of ATM switching in the core. While most VPNs consist of best-effort bandwidth tunnels across the Internet, Newbridge CSR delivers true private routing services with security, predictability and reliability guarantees.
Monaco Telecom is deploying CSR over the industry's best selling ATM switch, the MainStreetXpress(tm) 36170 Multiservices Switch. Installed in the networks of more than 350 service providers worldwide, the MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices Switch provides a broad range of interfaces and service offerings. These service offerings include IP, broadcast quality video, voice, native cell relay, local multipoint distribution service (LMDS), circuit emulation for advanced private line services, voice over frame relay (VoFR), and digital subscriber line (xDSL) services. End-to-end network and service management capabilities are provided by the MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager.
The MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager extends its unique network partitioning and integrated ATM, frame relay, and time division multiplexing (TDM) provisioning capabilities to premium IP-VPNs. It enables service providers to assign customers to bridged virtual local area networks (LANs) or routed virtual subnets and then associate centrally defined IP configuration policies and classes of service with these VPNs. Unlike conventional routing-based solutions that require independent configuration changes on all devices in the VPN, the MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager adds new access points and changes class of service through a single operational command.
Other components of the Newbridge CSR solution include the MainStreetXpress 56020 Routing Services Control Point, which provides routing policy and information on a network-wide basis, and the MainStreetXpress 36035 Ethernet Service Unit. When combined with other switched routing components, the 36035 Ethernet Service Unit provides intelligent packet-forwarding capabilities to Ethernet-attached devices, offering business customers the security and reliability they require for their VPNs.
"We are pleased to have developed a customized, innovative networking solution that enables Monaco Telecom to differentiate its service offerings and compete aggressively in the IP-VPN services markets - one of the fastest growing market segments in the industry," said Jim Arseneault, executive vice president, IP & Internetworking Products Group, Newbridge Networks.
