I'm impressed. You obviously know a lot about this stuff and I appreciate the time you've taken to help me out. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'm a wee bit overwhelmed. I know how to do a lot of stuff, but I also know my limitations. I fear I am very close to that point, if not there already. Surely you understand my predicament. :-}

The system seems to be working okay right now. Only thing is the double entry on my Start/Programs menu and not be able to reboot to DOS mode, neither of which will probably hurt me in the short term. I like to have everything nice, neat and tidy, of course. But I'm reluctant to do much more and risk screwing things to the point where I am out of business completely.

I'd prefer to reinstall Windows 98, which seems easier to me and more thorough. But, again, I might put myself out of business when at least I am running and working now. Let me ask you one question along those lines:

About reinstalling Windows over my present system ('cause I ain't yet ready to format the drive and start over completely), the concern is this. When I got the Dell last May, it came with Windows 95 installed. Then, about a month later Dell sent me a CD to upgrade to Windows 98, which I did. This was said to be a special upgrade CD that applied specifically to my Dell system, the upgrade was customized and had some special stuff (so they said). So, if I want to re-install Windows 98 over my present, what do I do? Just re-install the "Win 98 upgrade" CD that I have? Or, must I install the original Win 95 CD first, then the upgrade CD?

Another option I have, that might be good or bad (aren't they all?) is to install the new Win 98 CD my wife just got for her system. It is one CD, not like mine with Win 95 and an upgrade, but it's not customized for my Dell system and it has a unique and different ID number which I imagine might conflict with what I already have. Don't know if that's a problem or not.

So, I think I'm screwed (due to my limited technical ability), but I also think if I do a whole lot more I might be screwed a whole lot more. So, what do YOU think? How could I re-install Win 98 over what I already have the easiest, least risky way, if at all?

Thanks much! "Cheer" later. :-}

Bill
