You've got to have at least 125 hours for the instrument rating. At least 50 of them have to be cross country AFTER receiving the initial pilot's license.

If there's nothing to look at outside, flying by the instruments is fairly easy.

The difficulty -- more often than not -- is in staying in "instrument mode" even when the visibility is good.
