Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) said today that it has become the first silicon foundry to offer a 0.18-micron chip-processing service that enables multiple customers to share space on a single wafer. The multi-project wafer service is intended to cut the cost of prototyping and design verification as well as speed 0.18-micron products the market, TSMC said.

According to the world's largest pure-play silicon foundry, the new service will accelerate time-to-market for chip designers as well as library and intellectual property (IP) developers by reducing development mask and wafer costs by up to 10 times.
