The Sidewalk deal sounds effectively like a "merger" of City Search and Sidewalk, i.e. the reasoning is the sum is greater than the parts. As far as generating ad revenue, I can see how that would be true. The serious advertisers have national scale needs and one-stop shopping is going to be very attractive to them.

Anyone who has bought event tickets knows that TicketMaster has an effective monopoly there. So MSFT gets 9-13% of TicketMasters monopoly in return for a business outside their area of expertise that's running in the red. Seems sensible.

Paul Allen had a big stake in TicketMaster at one time. Anyone know if he still does?

Very interesting that they kept the Yellow Pages.
