jd,
i have read the releases several times. it appears to me that intel is concerned about rdram volume and price.
why?
my theory. micron is the culprit. micron was programmed to exceed even samsung's rdram production by the end of the year. micron has announced shipping samples to rambus and intel. every other rdram mfr has issued a major press release when their rdram samples were shipped and again when they were validated. we do not have that 2nd news from micron. my guess is micron's rdram product has problems that cannot be resolved in time for a big sept ramp up. that will allow samsung to hold rdram prices up.
the good news is that all of the rmbs production problems have been solved by some dram mfrs, so we know it works. the rest of the good news is a reaffirmation of camino and this q shipping.
we all know intel has been testing pc133. we all know it is a good short stop measure between sdram 100 and rdram 600, 700 and 800. the rest of the story will come out as we see benchmark comparisons between pc 133 and the final version of rdram 800. rambus ceo has assured us that 133 is no competition for rmbs. he has never let us down.
