More quarterly call notes.... these are from my conversations with Dana Wheeler @ investor relations.

Here's the big deal with AFFX IMO... pharma can buy AFFX arrays [chips] and a "scanner" to do their own experiment and collect their own data "in house". With INCY pharma sends INCY their experiment, and INCY does it, sends data back. These scanners are currently not available in the market place, so pharma can't just order chips and do their own tests, they would have to buy from AFFX if they wanted to do this.

She couldn't give me the names of companies that are alledgedly working on these tools that interface with the arrays. This will be important IMO to the development of this market. The market is tiny at the moment and probably won't really explode till the arrays can be just sold, stockpiled and used at the customers whim on their own machine.

I asked about the potential for added value INCY's databases might give an ARRAY user...ie. interface between database and the array software... absolutely was the answer. Could be big IMO, and worth watching as the array market grows.

Bottom line in arrays.... an interesting difference between INCY & AFFX at this point in time, and AFFX has a "window" for certain customers who want to do their own experiments. INCY can't compete with these customers untill machines come out that interface with the arrays. I'm trying to find out who is supposedly will be making these machines [I thought it a bit lame she didn't know actually] and when the ETA is. I believe it's HP that is making the AFFX machine.
