**OT** Anybody coming up with an explanation of the origin of the phrase "Cabbage Patch"? Any
relation with the vegetable? I mean a relation with the original doll, of course. I would only compare the
Mac with a delicious fruit, not with a vegetable, however good the latter.

It comes from one of the common "stories" that parents supposedly tell children when they ask where babies come from.

"The stork brings them" is one most people have heard, but apparently there is another one: "Found in garden under cabbage leaves"

Hence the term "cabbage patch kids".

They even spawned a satirical spin-off that I was fond of: Garbage Pail Kids, which were nasty, disgusting, offensive paradies of the originals.
