Besides the Nasdaq movement, there is also the semi industry cycle to consider. The semis got particularly beaten up during last spring/summer downturn because they were also on the skids of a major semi market downturn. That IS NOT the case now. The industry is benefiting from past investments that have already been written off and are now paying dividends of lower mfg. costs, higher volumes and better products. The lower prices for semis has also stimulated a new cycle of electronic product designs that were stalled in '94-'95 because of high semi prices. Are there many electronic equipment company don't have a slate of exciting new products to whet customers apetites? The concern that we will see as deep of a downturn as last year are way overblown. I expect a sharp but short lived move up from here over the week or so and then a rocky market with an upside trend until the end of June. Then I expect to see a "typical" summer downturn of about 8% but up from the current level.
