Michael, I am a VFR pilot, have never had any intention of getting an instrument rating. But in my private pilot training, I was taught to recover from unusual attitudes using instruments while wearing a hood.

I heard that JFK Jr. had taken training at Flight Safety International, which is has an excellent reputation.
