Dana, I think (and I depend on friends to correct me if I'm wrong) the original Rio (which came out late last year) did have mp3 shareware bundled with it which allowed Mac users to download music from the internet and Rio software to then upload it to the Rio. Check out www.rioport.com or www.diamondmm.com and read the FAQs on Rio for the correct answer to your question. Incidentally, it took me about twenty minutes to read the instructions (yeah, yeah, I know I shouldn't but I couldn't help myself), plug all the stuff in, set up the software, and download my first song from mp3.com with the initial Rio. Is pretty straightforward.
