Sort of reminiscent of the arguments of old that automobiles would never see large-scale success because there just weren't enough chauffeurs to go around or that the telephone couldn't succeed because every woman on the planet would have to be employed as an operator, no?

In technology the problem is the opportunity. The problem isn't that there is too little supply of system administrators, it is that there is too much demand. Since the former problem cannot be solved, the latter will be.
