Existing sales of 68K is not a big deal. Even the 500K planned sale on May13th is immaterial. Potashner has done an incredible sales job of selling SIII to the public. He's increased shareholder value from the depths of $1.50 to where it is today. I think he deserves the >>$5M+ that he'll get this year.

The fact that all he had to work with is SIII makes it more amazing.

SIII has an incredible amount of value in UMC stocks, but fundamentally, the core business has not (?yet?) shown any real signs of turning around. However, this is also immaterial, as the UMC value is so much higher. Worst case scenario :: if the core business kept losses to < 10M/yr, SIII could carry on at least another 50 yrs!!!. In the meantime, the core business could turn around, or the company could switch over to something more profitable, if indeed the graphics chip thing starts to turn sour for everyone.

What would make me buy more SIII? For shareholders, it's better if 18.2M shares of SIII to swap for DIMD are not new shares, as they will dilute existing shareholders. If it was up to me, I'd rather that the UMC holdings be used instead to purchase existing SIII shares (and quickly) as the stock will take a shot in the arm this way.

What do you think?
