Good evening Ed:

It seems as if you have become the unofficial ringmaster for the AOL thread (congratulations are in order). To set the record straight, I have no agenda against AOL and hope to maintain a long position. Having said that, do you have any concerns regarding earning in light of the following:

There are a number of other ISP's offering free computers with a 3 year commitment.

AOL in England has been surplanted by other ISP offering "free" (yes I know that they get a percentage of the phone bill, so it's not really free). Even with this fee spliting arrangement, AOL must be taking in less profit from subscription rates.

What percentage of the subscriber rates makes up their gross revenues?

One of the things that I have learned using SI during the past 2 years, is that there are inherent dangers lurking with fellow posters which lends themselves to "irrational exhuberance" /excessive optimism with regards to a stock valuation. I've seen it before with CPQ (several times, unfortunately) with Dell (january 1999), and to a degree with AOL. I guess what I'm saying is that having people making blind statements about AOL hitting 200 + (which BTW, I hope it does) before the end of the year without any basis (other then blind optimism/delusion/mass hysteria is a disservice to the members of this thread. Our purpose should be to share information in a constructive manner and to share some positive humor.

Anyway, having ranted and raved a bit, I do wish everyone well.

David
