MRV Announces First AcceleRouter™ Beta Site Installation

Chatsworth, CA -- July 20,1999 MRV Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVC), a
leading provider of high-speed optical network components and systems, today
announced the first successful Beta installation of its AcceleRouter™ under
its
NBase-Xyplex brand name. The Beta installation is located at the corporate
headquarters of Scitex Corporation Ltd., in Herzlia, Israel.

The Scitex Israel network infrastructure contains more then 2500 ports, spread
across 6 different buildings. An FDDI core ring is connecting between the
buildings, together with a Cisco Router as a gateway between the FDDI ring and
the local LAN. The AcceleRouter™ installation was successfully completed in
the main corporate building, which represents approximately 25% of the total
network.

“The AcceleRouter™ installation improved our network performance and Scitex
Corporation benefits an extreme improvement at a very small investment, saving
huge efforts and money not installing a new expensive Router, not to mention
the investment protection NBase-Xyplex can guarantee to us", said Mr. Ofer
Moscovich, Scitex IT manager.

“Executing the first beta site installation at Scitex was a very challenging
mission, since the Scitex network consists of multiple protocols such as IP,
IPX, AppleTalk, and Scitex Proprietary Layer 3 protocol," said Noam Lotan,
President and CEO of MRV Communications, Inc. "In spite of the fact that it
was not a heterogeneous network environment, the AcceleRouter™ installation
was
performed seamlessly.”

The AcceleRouter™ has a basic configuration of 24 10/100Base-TX auto-sensing
routed ports supported by a state-of-the-art 10 Gbps routing engine. With this
core engine, the AcceleRouter™ can accelerate IP data to Wire-Speed (over 3
million packets per second). The AcceleRouter™ provides complete
flexibility in
the number of Router/Network ports and has an optional redundant power
supply.
The ATM core machine enables per flow queuing, achieving Ethernet simplicity
with high-end ATM features. Using a patent pending auto-configuration
technology, the AcceleRouter™ requires zero network configuration changes,
regardless of the network architecture and design. The installation process
includes connecting the AcceleRouter™ to the existing router, and to the
network. With instant functionality, the AcceleRouter™, within minutes
automatically detects the network configuration and starts performing the
routing tasks at wire-speed.
