andrew, increased revs for computers was $8 billion. iow, they sold $8 billion more in 1998 than in 1997. the gdp contribution of that $8 billion was about $150 billion- or about all the gdp growth in 1998 over 1997. take away the smoke and gdp didn't grow one iota from 1997 to 1998.
