GE Information Services Selects RSA Components to Introduce Secure Multipurpose Message Brokering System

GE InterLinx(TM) Enables Secure E-Commerce and EDI; Advances Customers' Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) Initiatives

July 20, 1999 07:33 AM
SAN MATEO, Calif., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA Data Security, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Security Dynamics Technologies, Inc. SDTI , today announced that GE Information Services, a leading provider of business-to-business electronic commerce products and services, selected RSA encryption technology to be included in the recently unveiled GE InterLinx(TM) product. A multipurpose message brokering system, GE InterLinx utilizes RSA's version of the Secure/Multipurpose Internet Multimedia Extension (S/MIME) to enable the Secure Message Transfer Protocol (SMTP). By adopting RSA encryption components, GE Information Services provides its customers with a secure solution for centralizing, expanding and managing their Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) initiatives, while addressing their electronic commerce and electronic data interchange (EDI) gateway requirements.
"Through GE InterLinx and RSA protocols, we allow companies of all sizes to take advantage of the Internet for secure, affordable communication and commerce," said Steven Scala, general manager of global software solutions for GE Information Services. "Because RSA is a recognized leader in supplying encryption technology and tools, we are pleased to rely on their technology to implement S/MIME capabilities within GE InterLinx."

GE InterLinx provides a single point of integration, allowing clients to link their enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems with legacy applications, extend these applications for electronic exchange with their business partners and streamline the supply chain. GE InterLinx is differentiated from other EAI tools by its ability to act as a message broker to both intra- and inter- enterprise business applications. Developed entirely in Java, GE InterLinx is targeted at both the EAI and the EC gateway markets.

"As electronic commerce gateways have evolved to enable the smooth integration of ERP systems with legacy systems, other ERP systems and supply chain management systems, security has become a central issue for successful implementation," said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing for RSA and Security Dynamics Technologies. "RSA technology provides a solution that companies like GE Information Services require to meet the evolving business communication needs of their customers."
