While you are right that stocks don't stay above the upper Bollingers when they pass through it, I think APCC is a special situation which offers an exception to the rule. When stocks move sideways as APCC did for three week the BB's tighten right up. If the technicals (MACD, RSI, Chaikin) hold up when the stock starts to break out it quickly overtakes the upper Bollinger which usually makes a fast track to catch up - mostly my means of Bollinger band expansion. I would expect the BB's to spread substantially in the next three days to engulf any rally APCC might put forth.
