U.S. Army Selects Telos and Tivoli Systems to Provide Enterprise Management Solution to 435,000 Users Worldwide
ASHBURN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 1999--
Tivoli's Centralized IT Management Increases Army's Data Security, Operating Readiness, Productivity
Telos(R) Corporation and Tivoli Systems Inc. today announced that the two companies have teamed to deliver an Enterprise License Agreement (ELA) to the U.S. Army. The agreement, for up to 435,000 licenses of Tivoli's Enterprise management software, along with associated services and maintenance, will be fulfilled under the three-year, blanket purchase agreement (BPA) developed by both Tivoli and Telos and creates an enterprise management solution team with Telos as team leader.
According to Yvonne Jackson, project manager for the Army's Small Computer Program (SCP), the license agreement allows Tivoli and Telos to deliver technologies that will vastly increase the Army's data security, operating readiness and productivity on a global scale. "The Army needs to centrally and securely manage information technology systems that are geographically dispersed, whether they are spread out across an Army post or across entire countries or theaters, such as Europe or Southeast Asia," Jackson said. "By implementing an Army-wide, enterprise management solution, we can quickly become aware of IT issues before they affect our security or readiness."
Jan Lindelow, Tivoli chairman and CEO, said the agreement illustrates Tivoli's strategy of leveraging partners to deliver its products and services. "Our relationship with Telos and the U.S. Army underscores the benefits of working closely with partners," Lindelow said. "By serving as an enabler for its partners, Tivoli is establishing a consistent global standard of excellence and continuing to draw on our collective knowledge to help ensure the success of the U.S. Army and customers worldwide."
John B. Wood, president and CEO for Telos, said that as team leader on the BPA, Telos is responsible for ensuring that all of the software is delivered and implemented effectively. "Telos is committed to supporting the Army's use of Tivoli management software. That means rapid implementation, configuration and training. Telos is ready to support this ELA with the enterprise management services needed to make the Army's Tivoli rollout successful." Wood said that Telos will also be responsible for license distribution and management.
According to Martin Fredrickson, Tivoli director of government sales, this license agreement serves as an important step in the Army attaining its greatest return on investment in managing its diverse enterprise. "The Army will receive significant benefits from Tivoli Enterprise's centralized management capabilities both incrementally and when fully deployed enterprise-wide," he said. "Each deployed license represents a system that is being managed, which will save the Army time, money and effort because IT personnel can be reassigned to other important tasks. This license agreement allows for maximum flexibility in the Army's dynamic operational environment."
Tivoli Enterprise allows centrally located administrators to control the operation of heterogeneous networks, systems and applications to reduce complexity and cost. All products in the Enterprise management suite are DII COE compliant and include enterprise-wide host and data security. Tivoli Enterprise allows administrators to monitor performance from centrally located management consoles. For example, Tivoli Enterprise can take an inventory of computer assets, including software versions, hard drive size and memory capacity; easily update software across distributed systems; and maintain system and network availability.
Negotiated with the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command Acquisition Center-Washington (CAC-W), the BPA will be administered by the Army's Product Manager for Small Computer Program (PM-SCP) at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. The BPA was developed under the GSA schedules of Tivoli and Telos.
