Typical ivory tower position, and therefore the same position Intel has taken. Nevertheless, it is not pragmatic from an implementation standpoint.

(By the way, Rambus is NOT the only solution that works this way, the SLDRAM consortium provided a similar approach).

That's like saying, the best solution is a single chip with cache and main memory all in one, and everything talking a chip speed. No pins, no impedence problems, this is the best! Yes, that may be true, but each chip would cost $10,000, and nobody would buy it.
