Joe,

the same argument could be used to support the virtues of Betamax over VHS or for that matter Linux over Windows

You've hit on exactly the reason RDRAM will win. Just as Linux may be a better product than Windows (I don't know Linux, but we'll say it is), it will still lose because of the force of Microsoft behind it. Beta lost because Sony didn't set up the infrastructure and partnerships to support it.

Intel and Rambus have done exactly those same things -- Intel's force in the market (versus Via, AMD, and Micron? Don't make me laugh) and the partnerships and infrastructure that are in place (versus what for DDR DRAM? Nothing) is exactly why they'll be successful. They've executed very well, with the small exception that new technologies often run into delays. The Camino delay and the potentially slower ramp for RDRAM are very normal in this business.

I do not argue that Rambus has interesting technology, but I would argue that this stock is EXTREMELY over valued.

Your first post addressed the technical issues and the need for Rambus (with one sentence about valuation). That's what I was responding to. We can argue about the valuation for the next 2-3 years until someone's finally right, but I doubt that would be very productive. Everyone has to set their own threshholds. Good luck.

Dave
