OK, so you liked the catapult analogy and used it to support your hypothesis.

Try this one: Near the beginning of the PC industry IBM dominated the PC architecture. They tried to transition everyone to Microchannel, as they thought it would "lock" them into controlling the bus interface. This failed because Intel/Microsoft/Compaq and others banded together to define an "industry" standard alternative (ISA). Now, couldn't this be a repeat of history? That is Intel/Rambus is trying to "lock" the memory bus interface - while the rest of the industry is offering a "industry" standard alternative?

I do not believe that Intel is anymore powerful today, then IBM was then.

Seems to me that Intel is a little afraid of this possibility, hence their "evaluation" message yesterday. There is an example of these kind of power plays in our recent history, and it doesn't bode well for Intel/Rambus.
