Joan, Great post and yes I've asked the Ol' Yellow Dog who he is before. I think he is a Saint of sorts. Everybody loves him and he is the most mellow and wonderful dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

I've always thought that maybe we humans are fooling ourselves. Who says we are some sort of superior creatures? Why on the grand scale of things can't a dog be on a higher level than us? Man was the one who believed he was at at the center of the Universe for all these years, not dogs.

I'm not sure what they ARE but I do know this. They are loyal friends and they have died many times for us humans and knew damn well what was going on when they did die. That is what the War Dog Stamp is all about.

Maybe dogs are guides, Bishop with one look told me "things will be alright, God's plan." So maybe dogs can talk without words and send thoughts but we humans just miss it.

I do also know that the Ol' Yellow Dog and I have had many talks. I really do talk to him. Some times we go for hikes to the tops of mountains and when we are on top looking around we talk. Sometimes we are bored sitting in a duck blind and we talk. I've talked to him about stuff I'd never talk to a human about. He never makes a judgement, listens intently and licks me right in the face though trained not to do so, when he knows I need a doggy hug.

I'm not sure who dogs are, I just love them.
