NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Compaq Computer Corp. is
expected to name former TRW Inc. President Peter
Hellman as its new chief executive officer next week,
a source told CNNfn Tuesday.
Hellman, who also served as TRW's chief
operating officer, would fill the void left by Eckhard
Pfeiffer, who was ousted as Compaq's CEO by the
company's board in April.
The world's largest personal computer maker is
expected to make an announcement regarding
Pfeiffer's replacement next week when it releases its
quarterly financial results.
Compaq officials declined to comment.
The Houston-based computer company has
struggled recently amid weaker consumer demand
for its hallmark personal computer products. The
company managed to post first quarter profits only
half as high as analysts expected and in June
warned it would tally as much as a 15-cent per share
loss. Analysts had been expecting 20 cents per
share profit.
