OK, but I still think the piece was in jest. On the subject of whether there are deliberate efforts to "bash" stocks on SI or also other boards, I believe there are. I have worked with a number of institutional investors who specialize on the short side of the market, and I can tell you that, on average, the work they do is far superior to the work done by those on the long side. It would not surprise me to learn that individual investors who are negative on certain stocks have also done better work than those on the long side. I think you can fault the tactics of both the longs and the shorts. One of the great things about message boards is that everything is much more out in the open than before. If something illegal occurs, someone can trace the source of the postings with a supoena. Unlike the case with say an anonymous tip to Barron's from a short seller.

Want to post an example of "bashers" who were negative and it turned out they were clearly wrong?
