It doesn't really matter much who people are pulling for, unless they are willing to pull very hard indeed. Most Americans would certainly be "pulling for" Taiwan, but would they be willing to go to war with China over it? China wouldn't need to have anyone pulling for them; Taiwan would. A big difference.
