IW--I think you're right about E*Trade reducing their advertising. I don't watch a ton of TV (how could I, I'm always on the damn computer!), but it seems to me that I've seen less of their advertising lately, and they also seem to have a reduced presence in the WSJ. That's fine with me--I think the execs know what they're doing.

A broker from Merrill gave me a call two days ago, trying to pitch me to be a client of his. Bit of a chill in the air when I told him that I not only used E*Trade's service, but 2/3s of my portfolio was IN E*Trade stock! He was quite confident that Merrill was going to blow all the OLBs away, but I don't see it. They will have an impact, no doubt (as they have had on our stock price, alas), but I believe they'll have much more impact on Schwab than they'll have on us. Maybe that's "whistling past the graveyard," but that's the way I see it...
