Indeed, global semiconductor sales are expected to rise 12.1% next year while sales of memory chips - Cypress's specialty - should rise 19%. Looking forward, the strongest area of growth for Cypress will be the SRAM market.

SRAM, or Static Random Access Memory, improves the performance of a computer by using less bandwidth to retrieve from memory than other memory chips. The wireless phone market is also seeking out SRAMs, especially the smaller low-power, low-voltage chips that Cypress produces. The demand for SRAM chips outpaces the supply to such an extent that there has been talk of possible allocation - in effect, rationing - of SRAMs in the near term.
