Thanks DJ. Appreciate the news, and glad to get further bullish confirmation on CY going into YR2000(below) with comments by Dan Niles of BancBoston. Great to see Morgan Stanley upgrade and $28 target too. Regards, QuadK

Cypress Semiconductor: Buy on the News as Well

by Jade Liou 7/21/99

Tuesday was not a good day for semiconductor stocks,
including shares of Cypress Semiconductor (NYSE:CY -
news) .

Its shares fell $0.75, or 3.8% to $19.38. This happened on the same day that the maker of chips used mostly for the fast-growing networking and communications market, reported a 44% rise in earnings, $0.14 per share before goodwill costs related to acquisitions. Consensus estimates were around $0.12 per share. Last year, Cypress lost $0.07 per share.

Given that its stock had just doubled in just three months after bouncing around but going nowhere for 1½ years, is this as good as it gets for Cypress?

No, say analysts. "Though we believe the current quarter will have some upside to our current estimates, the real surge should come in late 1999 and especially 2000," says Daniel Niles at BancBoston Roberston Stephens.
