Stephen,

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear enough. What I was stating was that "IF" Bejing attacked Taiwan, then the US and UN forces should reinforce the Island, thus effectively making any invasion of Taiwan an act of war against the US. It also would inject the US into the middle of any future reunification process, something that Bejing wants to avoid at all costs.

Risky? Yes. But given that these hardliners in Bejing seem to willfully steering their nation down the path of confrontation and aggression against their neighbors, I can only beleive that a all-out shown of support and international political will would suffice to dishonor the hardliners and create the momentum for their replacement with more moderate elements.

Use of force by Bejing MUST BE MET with force by the US and its allies.

Please note that I separate the Chinese people from the political contol of leadership in Bejing. However, those who feel they can assert their geographical ambitions through force of arms must be opposed, especially with a country as large as China.

Hopefully, one day the people in China will no longer have to "toe the line" of party propaganda from Bejing.

And yes, were there silence, I also would be much more concerned.

Regards,

Ron
