ALL:

Slight update.

Athlon Availability.

Okay, it is now looking (after some reflection on conversations that took place lst night), like the OEM Athlon boxes will be available in force *around* the Middle (maybe a little earlier) of August.

Screwdrive shops, and parts distributors should get parts between 2 weeks and 1 month later in the '100's of thousands' quantities (impression I got anyway.. might be wrong... advise grain of salt).

Motherboards were an issue, simple due to manufacturers hesitant to commit a lot of time and capital to a new platform (given AMD's introduction history). However another source has indiciated that at least 2 motherboard manufacturers are now seriously ramping production, as *apparently* AMD is accelerating the volume schedules for Athlon (gee big surprise. No one wants a K6 so you have lots of fab room for the K7).

I'm not sure where UMC fabbing chipsets fits into any of this, or their progress in doing so. However, this is the information that I currently have so I'm sharing.. (boy wouldn't be first grade teacher be pleased).

Also, for those of you running Seti@home, you may want to stop by www.3dnow.org. Just have a read. And for those of you technically inclined you might wanna take a look at the 3DNow! workshops we are hosting there.

Regards,

Steve
