Hello Larry - thanks for the NYT piece. I am going to combine my response to both of your posts [to me] here.
Regarding to population distribution, it is quite inevitable, since China and India are the two most populous nations. Recently, even the fast food chains in the UK have to go curry style. The British is always fond of Indian food. Maybe it is the case of "what goes around, comes around." Some sort of reverse colonialization <VBG>! Personally, I ve no problem with that. The scientist in me likes to diversify the genetic brew anyway <VVBG>! But back to the article [thanks again,] I actually don't think that all surprising. The same for LA etc. The more pressing question, IMHO, is how to avoid any major cultural clashes. Again, to use LA as an example, the riot back in 1996[?] - in which many of the Korean immigrants were victimized for no particular reason except they were better off - has demonstrated how jealousy can be so destructive
Regarding to President Clinton, knowing your dislike of him, I guess maybe we can settle for a "agree to disgree." The fact that CCCP was installed as the China at UN really leaves little choice. I believe it was on President Carter's watch [incidentally, he is also one of my favorite comtemporary Presidents, if I ve to make preferences.] And I don't think President Bush could have done any better.
