CPQ didn't exactly "sell" ALta Vista. They exchanged it for a very large piece of CMGI which has the power to maximize AV's value in terms of taking it public, merging it into a giant network etc.
Personally I feel fine about owning a piece of CMGI through CPQ and feel they made a clever decision. WIN-win IMHO.

Looking forward to more future direction news from this fast-restructuring company.
