A small sideline: I sent my mother to a Steve Allen performance for Mother's Day, with a reception afterward, so that she and my brother with cerebral palsy got to meet Steverino, who is an awfully nice guy. When I was very little, I sometimes would wake up and join my parents in the rec room to watch the Tonight Show when he hosted...That is the main image that comes to mind when I think of them before they divorced...
