Excellent point.

The term "liberal" has changed significantly during this century. I generally consider myself a "classic" liberal -- that is, a liberal as the label was usually applied up to about 1960. A believer in individual freedom and responsibility. A beliver in societal responsibility for those unable (not merely unwilling) to care for themselves. A believer in the sanctity of human life. An opponent of militarism and nationalism. Those, IMO, were core values of classic liberalism.

Most of those values have been abandoned or perverted by contemporary "liberals," and some have even been taken over by the "conservative" movement. The lables don't mean what they once did.
